St. Vincent's breaks ground on new cancer center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - St. Vincent's Health System is moving forward with plans to replace the current Bruno Cancer Center. The new center will be housed in a 70,000 square-foot, four-story freestanding professional office building to be constructed on the St. Vincent's Birmingham campus. The new building will be developed by Johnson Development. A ground breaking event was held Thursday, November 15.

The new Bruno Cancer Center will include features for improved comfort, convenience, easy access and privacy, such as private entries for treatment and office visits direct from the parking deck, automated check-in for faster registration and expanded space in examination rooms ans common areas. The facility will also house the Varian TrueBeam Stx, the latest in radiation technology that enables several radiotherapy treatment options with pinpoint accuracy and precision.

"At St. Vincent's, our patients are the heart of our work," STVHS President and CEO John O'Neil said.

The new facility is slated to open in 2014.
