(AP) ? Nissan's upscale Infiniti brand unveiled its new global headquarters in Hong Kong on Tuesday, as the Japanese automaker uses the southern Chinese financial center to grab a bigger piece of the world's top car market.

Nissan Motor Co. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn dotted the eyes on traditional Chinese lion dancers at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new office, which will have 100 staff by the end of the first year.

Infiniti is the first car maker to base itself in Hong Kong, a semiautonomous region of China better known for its banking prowess and stock market.

Ghosn said the company chose to move the high-end division to Hong Kong so staff could better observe the city's luxury goods market. Many foreign brands have flocked to the city in recent years in pursuit of wealthy Chinese shoppers.

He reiterated Infiniti's target to raise market share in China to 10 percent of the luxury car market from 3 percent now.

"During the next five years, Hong Kong and mainland China will together be our most important growth market," Ghosn said.

He brushed off worries of a slowing Chinese economy, pointing out that the world's biggest car market was still expanding.

Some 18.5 million vehicles were sold in China last year but sales growth has been slowing, from 35 percent in 2010 to just 2 percent in the latest quarter.

Ghosn said 5-6 percent growth for the passenger car market in 2012 is "completely realistic."

Infiniti joins other rival luxury marques from Mercedes-Benz to Cadillac who see China's newly rich buyers as a big source of future growth. Despite the overall market slump, China's luxury sales are still buoyant, surging 21 percent in the first quarter over a year earlier, according to JD Power & Associates.

Car makers are designing models that cater to Chinese tastes and shifting some production to the country as brisk economic growth mints scores of new millionaires.

"Chinese tastes are becoming more and more important," Ghosn said.

At the Beijing auto show in April, Infiniti said it would start manufacturing cars in China for the first time, with production of two vehicles starting in 2014.

Executive Vice President Andy Palmer said the vehicles would be all-new but would not disclose any other details. Ghosn said the company decided to move production to China to reduce risks from big swings in currency rates.

He also reaffirmed Infiniti's goal of raising sales to 500,000 vehicles by 2016, up from 145,000 in 2011 and expanding into 70 markets from 45.

This year the brand will be launched in Australia, Chile, Mexico, South Africa and Hong Kong, executives said.

Communicating the value of Information Security ? Part 3 | The State ...

In part 2 of this series, I talked about getting to know the ?language? of your particular business. ?This week, I want to talk about how to leverage Enterprise Architects, if they are available. ?According to Wikipedia,

The role of the enterprise architect [builds a holistic view of the organization's strategy, processes, information, and information technology assets?and takes] this knowledge and ensures that the business and IT are in alignment. The enterprise architect links the business mission, strategy, and processes of an organization to its IT strategy, and documents this using multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of an organization will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner.

Doesn?t that seem like the perfect person to help you connect the tactical aspects of information security to something that is strategically relevant to the business?

These individuals are compelled by their role to understand how everything fits together to make the business ?go? and you can tap into their unique perspective to help map your work back to key capabilities, goals, and obstacles faced by the business.

One other benefit of this interaction, at least from my experience, is that you can often identify areas of your own work in which you are over-investing. ?If the Enterprise Architect can?t find relevance in some of your activities, and you can?t justify why you?re doing it in business terms, then it is a great candidate for something that should be on the chopping block. ?After all, window dressing in the Information Security realm is a big waste of time.

If you don?t have an official Enterprise Architect role, you may be able to identify the person who is filling that role. ?Typically, you will know them because:

  • They are the ?go to? people for how systems, processes, technologies, and business strategies work together.
  • They have been with the company for a while, and know how everything works together.
  • They are the people that executives seek out when something bad hits the fan.
  • They regularly work with the business and IT on problems and solutions
  • They are involved in most, if not all, strategic projects and seen as someone whose advice holds a lot of weight.

If you can identify such a person in your company, engage with them and solicit their help in communicating the value of your security activities.

Next week, I?ll talk about a surprising ally in this battle. ?Stay tuned. ?And, as always, if you have your own tips to contribute, please leave a comment below.

Voyager Mobile shakes off network issues, launches a few days behind schedule

Voyager Mobile launches

It's tough being the new kid in town -- ask Voyager Mobile, an up and coming MVNO that had its launch delayed by a "malicious network attack" last week. The tenacious firm may have missed its planned May 15th launch, but managed to pull things together in time for the weekend, piggybacking unlimited talk, text and data off of Sprint's CDMA and WiMAX network for $40 a month. A basic unlimited voice plan is also available to the tune of $20, without data allowances, of course. Phones are available too, albeit without subsidies -- Samsung's Epic 4G Touch or Galaxy S II will each set you back $550, though an assortment of more affordable devices can be had from $120 and up. Tempted to jump ship? Check out the source link below and let all your MVNO dreams come true.

IDIBELL researchers identify a fragment of protein Zds1 with a key role in mitosis

Researchers from the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) have identified the mechanism by which protein Zds1 regulates a key function in mitosis, the process that occurs immediately before cell division. The result has been achieved in the online edition of the Journal of Cell Science and opens the door to developing targeted and direct therapies against cancer.

In every organism, cells grow and divide into two daughter cells through an orderly succession of events called "cell cycle". Cells have to complete four main processes during the cell cycle: growth (G1 and G2 phases), doubling the DNA (S phase), segregation of chromosomes (M phase, mitosis) and division (cytokinesis). In the S phase or DNA replication, the genetic material is duplicated and then during the M phase or mitosis, cells separate the duplicated chromosomes between two daughter cells. This will ensure correct inheritance of genetic information from one cell generation to the next.

Chromosomal stability

The transmission of genetic information (DNA) from parent to child (or equivalently, from cell to cell) is a fundamental question in biology. Aneuploidy, ie lack or excess of chromosomes, is a feature present in almost all human cancers and promotes tumour development. Regulation of mitosis is particularly important for maintaining chromosomal stability. For example, tumour cells are aneuploid due to defects in the segregation of chromosomes, which originate cells with more or less genetic material than usual.

However, in spite of its importance, very little is known about the output regulation of mitosis. In the article published in the Journal of Cell Science, the Cell Cycle research group at IDIBELL led by Ethel Queralt, discovers a new mechanism of regulation of mitotic exit.

Separase protein is a key component for proper chromosome segregation and the regulation of mitosis. In previous work, the group of Dr. Queralt described for the first time the involvement of Zds1 protein in mitosis. This protein cooperates with the separase to ensure correct genetic inheritance from cell to cell.

The study delves into the molecular mechanism by which this protein Zds1 regulates mitosis and contributes to the right segregation of chromosomes. In this paper there have been used the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism.

Yeast is one of the most widely used model organisms to study basic processes in the cell, allowing to identify complex molecular mechanisms as the study of cell cycle in higher organisms. The application of such basic knowledge will help to develop more specific and direct treatments against various cancers.

Dr. Queralt points out that "the mechanisms of regulation of mitosis are very complex and well-known fact opens the door to specific drugs that inhibit or enable to correct this process in various diseases, especially cancer." She explains that most anticancer drugs are being implemented without knowing exactly how they work, "these are compounds that often we do not know how are working, but they do. If we follow a reverse process, ie if we start to know the activity of a protein or part of the protein, we could design specific drugs to minimize side effects." Dr. Queralt's researching is an important step in developing therapies that prevent tumour cells from replicating.
